Wildlife & nature in Nicaragua

Wildlife on this coast means dry tropical forest, howler monkeys in the islets, birds on the lake and the peninsula, and — in season — sea turtles on the beaches south of San Juan del Sur. Reserves such as Mombacho have their own rules and a gate. Turtle walks are seasonal and should be done with a permitted group, not as a freelance night drive. We do not publish nest locations.
