Offshore season on the Pacific, lake mornings at Granada, and what to ask a captain before you pay.
If you want sailfish and dorado, come to San Juan del Sur between December and April and book a boat that leaves before the wind. Inshore roosterfish and rock fishing run longer into the year, including from Gigante and Astillero, which we list with this coast. Granada is a different fishery: guapote and a morning among the Isletas, with no offshore billfish. Whenever you go, ask what the price includes and what the captain will do if the sea is wrong. A good answer is specific. A vague answer is a reason to call the next boat.
