Fishing in Granada
Nicaragua fishes two completely different ways. On the Pacific, pangas and sport boats look for sailfish, dorado, tuna, and roosterfish. On Lake Nicaragua, the day is about guapote and other lake fish among the islets, with calmer water and a shorter ride from town. Either way, agree the full price before you board: captain, fuel, ice, tackle, and what happens if the wind shuts the trip down.
In Granada the fishing is on the lake. Boats leave toward the Isletas and the open water beyond, usually for a morning. Guapote is the fish people name. There is no offshore sailfish program here; if that is the trip you want, look at San Juan del Sur, including the Gigante and Astillero boats we file with that coast. Shops in town sell basic tackle when we have them tagged.
